Descending beyond the horizon, the day starts to slowly fade out. In the twilight one wants to rest and let bygone be bygone. Some might say it is a romantic scene. Perhaps it is. But perhaps it isn’t the candlelight that emerges.
Scenes similar to those of Caspar David Friedrich evoke and stir up emotions. Some might even call it the sublime – the ultimate beauty. Something that is so magical and stimulating in form and content that it objectively has to be called beautiful. When the light changes and warmer colours and tones emerge up in the sky, the world around us seems to soften. It can be so powerful that it lets us forget the torments of the day. (more…)
Surrounded by buzzling lights and constant streams of flashes – continuously creating impressions that demand to be taken in. Sometimes life comes around fast. It becomes faster than one is prepared for. The surrounding world starts to blur and gradually each impression becomes indistinguishable from another. The sensitivity of perception no longer can function properly, but creates a different reality. It is a reality that is not bound by timely restrictions.
High in ambition, but incapable of dealing with any impression, one freezes the moment. Sorting out and tracing each light back to its source, the job seems endlessly complicated. The question of ‘how to deal with it?’ arises. The impossibility of dealing with everything at the same time does not prevent you from trying it anyway. Resulting in failure, one is shattered in despair. (more…)
Why is there the awkward silence, you may ask yourself? Endlessly rising like a sky-scraping concrete block escalating towards infinity. A silence that is lasting so long, it actually becomes the status quo – our modern day modus operandi. So useless that it has become the purpose itself. The unnecessary awkwardness is a substantial part in our lives.
Advancing and perfecting our societies, we strive to better our situation and environment continuously. Our idealistic minds are set for the future and further improvements for our lives. But what are these improvements really? A bigger flat-screen, a faster metro connection, or yet another muscle-building workout that makes us work better and more efficiently? (more…)
Humid density in my head and an urge to do something about it, brings coffee on the table. Not hot, but drenched in ice and soaked in a shot of sugary milk. It is a change – a drastic one – from the typical strong and hot blackness that usually fuels caffeine-addicted body. One could ask about the reasons for this change, but those are probably unimportant.
Not being used to stirring the coffee, unexpected spillages appeared on the surface underneath. Due to personal indifference and lethargy, the stains remained on the table. The seemingly undissolving sugar forced further and stronger action, which resulted in additional liquid splashing on the white surface. (more…)
Suddenly yellow window blinds transform into book covers that demand to be opened. Laundry lying lost on a garage roof, desperately wanting to be worn, becomes the beginning of a mystery that begs to be solved. Shadows roaming across corridors start to develop a life of their own, independently of their owners.
Imagining stories is an imaginable easy thing to do. It is an activity natural to us. No matter how advanced the imaginative qualities reach. From young to old, we pick up pieces of reality and continue them in our heads. It would be a lie to say one has never imagined what might happen behind closed doors and shut windows. (more…)
Standing strong with both feet on the ground, no matter how solid this ground might be, does not mean that you will know where you actually stand. Stance is an issue that is perhaps more important than one might think at first.
People – like you and me – often ask metaphorically “where do we stand?” It is a question that begs an immediate answer. It demands a summarising and solution-bearing conclusion of where one stands. (more…)
Light-headed and drowsy, feeling almost nauseous – it is a good indication. Words, which ordinarily are prescribed to those things unordinary, are connected to instances in our lives that will last. Meaning – we will not forget. Often they were times hardship and suffering. But perhaps that’s the reason they stay with us.
Those feelings that are out of the ordinary are linked to moments of intensity. It is in those moments that you realise that you are still alive. These unordinary feelings make you understandably clear that you are perhaps still able to feel. (more…)
